There is still time to vote at the Site Selection for the 2017 Worldcon. I'm planning on voting for my hometown of Helsinki. I hope you, dear reader, might do the same.
Why? Because I believe in the bid, the Finnish fandom and the idea we have for the whole enterprise. Because if Worldcon really wants to be a worldcon, it should be just that and not just another American convention. Because we have brilliant site. Because we want to showcase to the world how we do things in Finland. Because we can. Because we make damn good conventions here.
Helsinki is a very nice city. It's well worth a visit. Heck, Finland is worth a visit. Or two. And then there's Stockholm, Tallinn, St. Petersburg. All nearby, all easily reachable.
I have a vested interest in all of this. I would be one of the proposed co-chairs for the convention. I have chaired big cons before and I know my strong suits (preferably blue, with a red cape, ahum). I also believe in my chair-buddies, Saija Aro and Crystal Huff. Together, we'd be formidable trio.
No guffawing, this is a serious business. Vote now. Or later. Before the deadline would be good, though.
